Members of the Bosnian Youth Network Sydney raised more than $4,000 for the purchase of sanitary packs for the homeless community in Sydney.

It was the first humanitarian project for the Bosnian Youth Network which was started last year and is based at mosques at Penshurst and Smithfield.

"The overwhelming generosity of the Bosniak community enabled us to raise more than triple our intended amount so we decided to split the packing and distribution of the sanitary packs into two events," Bosnian Youth Network Australia co-ordindator Iman Gacanovic said.

"In November 2018 we packed and distributed half of those packs," Iman said.

"On Saturday, March 9 we packed 125 sanitary backpacks and distributed them in Martin Place to our less fortunate brothers and sisters.

"We wanted to reach out to the homeless and let them now that there are people who are interested and support them," she said

"In total we packed and distributed 200 sanitary backpacks.

"We would like to thank all of the people who donated funds and our young volunteers who donated their time packing and distributing the goods. We look forward to organising many more charitable events in our communities."
